PHILOSOPHY
It's very simple...I love kitchens, kitchen design, kitchen products, kitchen planning, all things kitchen related. I know why I love kitchens. It's because kitchens are the soul of the home, where one finds physical and spiritual nourishment with family and friends, or with oneself, and most of all, it's where all five senses surround us, and how wonderful is that?
A student of Parsons School of Design, having studied to achieve Certified Kitchen Design status, attending countless seminars and conferences on kitchen and bath design over the years, I continue to learn new things about my profession every day.
Writing my blog, www.thekitchendesigner.org, being the enthusiastic recipient of constant press releases on new products as well as attending kitchen and bath and general design shows throughout the year, enhances my knowledge and insight into what's happening in kitchen design right now. My email inbox is constantly overflowing with new information, and I welcome all of it.
If I were to simply express what I feel is important in any kitchen design, the first word that would come to my mind is comfort. One's kitchen should feel comfortable...and there are many ways and many definitions of comfort.
PUBLICATIONS
My design work has been featured in many national home shelter publications over the years, most often Better Homes & Gardens publications. I am a busy go-to source for many print and online editors who need information on kitchen design related issues. My work has also appeared in our industry's trade magazines, where I am frequently asked to provide information on kitchen design issues.
My work has been, and can also be seen in newspapers, manufacturer's brochures in both print and online.
OTHER INTERESTING ACHIEVEMENTS/ACTIVITIES
Most exciting, an image of a kitchen I designed appears on the side of a fleet of trucks of one manufacturer, and my work is seen in many online publications, both large and small, in a variety of ways.
An occasional speaker on kitchen design, a mentor to kitchen designers who write to me and ask career questions, are a couple of activities I enjoy doing.
In 2001, I built a website for kitchen designers to speak to one another, which was the only place where kitchen designers nationwide could come together to solve problems, support one another, and more. This website ran for seven years. Parts of our conversations served as a repeating column in one of our industry's major publications for some years.
I attend numerous design shows throughout the year and never miss KBIS, the major kitchen and bath industry show to see, firsthand, new products.
As well as being a Certified Kitchen Designer, I am also a member of NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) and member of USGBC (United States Green Building Council.)
BLOG-WWW.THEKITCHENDESIGNER.ORG
Writing my blog for the past 2+ years has given me a whole other dimension of insight into kitchen design. Constantly on the lookout for new looks, products, design issues, or just speaking to my audience on issues from my experience as a kitchen designer, there is no question that I have learned more and thought more about kitchen design than I would have otherwise. I have benefitted in a significant way and have grown as a designer as a result of writing my blog. I'm grateful for that. Please talk to me on my blog, I'd love to hear your experiences in the kitchen and your thoughts for what works for you and doesn't work.
Thanks for your time!
